STATE MANDATE - Potential Cost

Less than 5,000 per district

Less than 5,000 per district

Explanation

The amendment strikes the underlying bill and its associated fiscal impact.

The amendment could result in a cost of less than $5,000 per district, by requiring all local and regional boards of education to include Holocaust and genocide awareness in their regular course of study and social studies curriculum. The costs are associated with the printing and distribution of materials, if a district opts not to use on-line resources. The potential costs will vary by the size of the district.

The amendment allows local and regional school districts, in the expansion of this curriculum, to use existing and appropriate public or private materials, personnel, and other resources and to accept gifts, grants, and donations, including in-kind donations. This is anticipated to significantly reduce the costs incurred by districts, which could otherwise reach approximately $5,000, and for many districts, using free, on-line, established resources will eliminate the cost.
