Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:

Section 1. (NEW) (Effective July 1, 2008) The Department of Public Health shall establish, within available appropriations, a teenage pregnancy prevention grant program. Local and regional boards of education with a demonstrated record of providing educational programs concerning teenage pregnancy prevention may apply for a grant to the department at such time and in such manner as the Commissioner of Public Health prescribes. Any local or regional board of education receiving a grant under this section shall use such funding to provide medically accurate health education concerning teenage pregnancy prevention. Such educational programs shall be in conformity with curriculum guides developed pursuant to section 10-16c of the general statutes.

Sec. 2. (Effective July 1, 2008) The sum of one million dollars is appropriated to the Department of Public Health, from the General Fund, for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2009, for purposes of the grant program established under section 1 of this act.

This act shall take effect as follows and shall amend the following sections:
