TEACHERS' SICK AND PERSONAL DAYS | ||
| ||
By: Mary M. Janicki, Director |
You want to know whether teachers' sick days and personal days are set by statute, regulations, or collective bargaining agreements.
The law requires local and regional boards of education to give at least 15 days of paid sick leave to each professional employee every school year. An employee can accumulate at least 150 days of unused sick leave (CGS § 10-156). A collective bargaining agreement can establish greater amounts in either case.
As prescribed by the law that makes “hours and other conditions of employment” subject to negotiation (CGS § 10-153d (b)), personal days are set by collective bargaining agreements.
