Substitute Senate Bill No. 1217
PUBLIC ACT NO. 97-78
AN ACT CONCERNING UNIT PRICING AND SHELF LIFE
PRICING.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of
Representatives in General Assembly convened:
Section 1. Subsection (c) of section 21a-74 of
the general statutes is repealed and the following
is substituted in lieu thereof:
(c) [No] ANY PRINTED advertisement to aid,
promote [,] or assist, directly or indirectly, in
the sale of any consumer commodity subject to the
provisions of subsection (a) of this section,
WHICH PRINTED ADVERTISEMENT COMPARES OR OTHERWISE
DISPLAYS DIFFERENT SIZES OR MEASURES OF THE SAME
SUCH COMMODITY, shall NOT state the total price of
such commodity unless [it] SUCH ADVERTISEMENT also
states the unit price of such commodity.
Sec. 2. Section 21a-78b of the general
statutes is repealed and the following is
substituted in lieu thereof:
The provisions of section 21a-78 shall not
apply to the price of any food offered or
displayed for sale or sold at retail on and after
June 4, 1996, and prior to June 1, [1997] 1999.
The Department of Consumer Protection shall,
within existing appropriations, monitor the number
of consumer complaints regarding the fluctuation
of food prices related to the nonapplication of
section 21a-78 to such sales.
Sec. 3. This act shall take effect from its
passage.
