AN ACT CONCERNING EDUCATION ISSUES.

AMENDMENT

LCO No.: 6273

File Copy No.: 111

Senate Calendar No.: 108

OFA Fiscal Note

State Impact: See Below

Municipal Impact: See Below

Explanation

The amendment extends, for FY 12 and FY 13, the increased per pupil amount for students attending the Edison Magnet School in Meriden. Meriden students would continue to receive $3, 833 (rather than $3, 000) . It is anticipated that that there will be approximately 600 Meriden students attending Edison in FY 12 and FY 13, resulting in an additional cost of approximately $499, 800. This funding is included in the magnet school appropriation for FY 12 and FY 13. Additionally, this extension was contained in Section 54 of SB 1239 (the biennial budget) as passed by the House and the Senate.

Additionally, the amendment increases the per pupil amount for students attending the Edison Magnet School to $4, 250 in FY 14 and beyond. Assuming that Edison maintains a similar number of in-district students, this provision results in an additional cost of approximately $250, 200, annually.

Lastly, the amendment extends the out-of-district per pupil amount of $6, 730, for each fiscal year beyond FY 10. This out-of-district per pupil amount is included in the magnet school appropriation for FY 12 and FY 13.
