APPOINTMENT TO STATE BOARD OF EXAMINERS FOR NURSING

By: Mary M. Janicki, Director

You asked for a description of the nomination and appointment process for membership on the State Board of Examiners for Nursing (the board). You also want to know whether an appointee must appear before the Executive and Legislative Nominations Committee for confirmation by the General Assembly.

The 12 members of the board are appointed by the governor and must be Connecticut residents and members of the profession in good standing. A member may not (1) be an elected or appointed officer of any professional nurses association or (2) have been an officer during the year prior to appointment. Terms are coterminus with the governor's and no member can serve more than two full consecutive terms. The governor fills any vacancy (CGS §§ 20-88 and 4-9a).

Members' appointing authorities and qualifications are listed in Table 1.
