AN ACT CONCERNING THE AUDITING OF STATE AGENCIES.
The bill (1) requires the auditors of public accounts to report their findings to the Government Administration and Elections (GAE) Committee and (2) authorizes the committee to require state agencies that fail to comply with the recommendations in these reports to appear before it at a public hearing. During the public hearing, the agency must present information on its failure to comply, including its plans for implementing outstanding recommendations.
By law, the auditors audit the books and accounts of each (1) state officer, department, commission, board, and court; (2) state-supported institution; and (3) quasi-public agency. They report their findings and recommendations to the governor, state comptroller, and Appropriations and Program Review and Investigations committees. Under the bill, they must also report to the GAE Committee.
