AN ACT CONCERNING FIREFIGHTER I CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS.

SUMMARY:

Beginning July 1, 2009, this bill requires a person to be certified as having satisfactorily completed courses in adult, child, and infant cardiopulmonary resuscitation and automated external defibrillator use in order to get a Firefighter I certificate.

EFFECTIVE DATE: July 1, 2009

BACKGROUND

Firefighter I

Under current regulations, “Firefighter I” means a “firefighter who, at the first level of progression in the fire department, has demonstrated the knowledge and skills necessary to function safely and effectively as an integral member of a firefighting team in accordance with objectives specified for that level and, when engaged in hazardous activities, works under direct supervision” (Conn . Agencies Regs. § 7-323l-78).
