Explanation
This amendment requires the Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (DMHAS) to study correlations between marijuana use and schizophrenia, as well as any increased incidence of schizophrenia in the state due to the passage of the underlying bill. It is expected that studies of these magnitudes will result in significant increased costs to DMHAS. It is unclear whether the department would require additional staff or contract with an outside entity to conduct this study. The extent of these costs will be dependent upon study design, scope and duration.
The preceding Fiscal Impact statement is prepared for the benefit of the members of the General Assembly, solely for the purposes of information, summarization and explanation and does not represent the intent of the General Assembly or either chamber thereof for any purpose.
