AN ACT PROHIBITING PLEA BARGAINING WITH RESPECT TO A CHARGE OF THE ILLEGAL POSSESSION OF A FIREARM.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:
That the general statutes be amended to provide that if a person is charged with the illegal possession of a firearm under section 53a-217 or 53a-217c of the general statutes, such charge may not be reduced, nolled or dismissed as the result of a plea agreement between such person and the prosecuting authority.
Statement of Purpose:
To enforce the punishment for illegally obtaining a gun by prohibiting plea bargaining resulting in the reduction, nolle or dismissal of a charge of the illegal possession of a gun.
